Community Programs

Fourth-Grade School Tour Program

Serving every fourth-grader in Chatham County, our annual school tour program provides 2,800 students with free tours of Telfair galleries, free interactive workshops, and free passes to the museum to share with their families. At the end of the program, all student artwork is featured in a curated exhibit at the Jepson Center, open to the public alongside national and international exhibitions.

Free Family Days

Marketed to community centers, churches, and local neighborhood associations, our Free Family Days serve thousands of children and adults each year. Inviting families to experience museum galleries, hands-on workshops, musical performances, and artist demonstrations, Free Family Days are a major part of our mission to make Telfair more accessible to new and diverse audiences.

Pre-K Head Start Program

Emphasizing the use of colors, shapes, and artistic materials, Head Start gives hundreds of children (ages 4–5) the chance to create, enjoy, and experience the power of art. Primarily serving children from low-income backgrounds, the Head Start program provides every student with a tour of the museum, an art workshop, a family pass, and an exhibition of their work—all entirely free of charge.

I Have Marks to Make

Every December, Telfair features amazing artwork from individuals in veteran’s groups, hospitals, stroke units, rehabilitation centers, the city’s Therapeutics Department, and the Department for Exceptional Children, celebrating art’s power to transform lives. Now in its 20th year, this exhibition is free and open to the public, inviting all members of the community to experience art’s positive influence.

Summer Camp Scholarships

Taught by professional local artists, Telfair summer camps invite youths (ages 6–18) for weeklong courses in a variety of artistic mediums—from painting, sketching, and photography to fashion design and video games. Each year, Telfair offers more than 40 scholarships so youths can enjoy these classes entirely free of charge, giving kids from all backgrounds a chance for a professional, artistic experience.

City Outreach

Every summer, Telfair sends professional artists and educators to dozens of community centers in low-income neighborhoods throughout Savannah.
Participants’ artwork is later featured in a public exhibition in the Jepson Center community gallery. The outreach touches everyone from kindergartners to parents.

Title I School Program

Telfair offers free tours to Title 1 schools in Savannah and Chatham County by application, based upon availability, to provide access to local schools with a high percentage of low-income students. The tours include permanent collection and special exhibition-based school programs.
