Art can be instrumental in shaping the tone and nature of intercultural relations. FAAA has a diverse membership, which enjoys social and cultural activities that allow participants to expand their personal networks while experiencing the remarkable cultural landscape the Southeast has to offer. Telfair Museums Friends of African American Arts Small Works Exhibition

September 16 – October 23, 2022
Jepson Center, Morrison Community Gallery

Telfair Museums’ Friends of African American Arts was formed in 2007 with a mandate to “raise public awareness and to promote development and understanding of art by African Americans.” Over the years, this museum member support group has done just that by presenting the annual Jacob and Gwendolyn Lawrence Lecture Series featuring distinguished artist and scholars, and by member events focused on education and exhibitions. Over the years, FAAA has evolved into a vibrant community of artists, collectors and art enthusiasts. Artist members are key to the group and in 2016 initiated an annual small works exhibition in the Jepson Center’s community gallery. Along with other exhibitions in the Savannah area, this program has helped bring greater visibility to many artists, including solo exhibitions in Savannah and elsewhere. This current exhibition features work in a variety of media – painting, sculpture, photography and mixed media – by 28 current FAAA members. This exhibition presents a taste of our talented artist community and the public is invited to seek out more information on their work.
