Free Family Days! at the Jepson Center

Family Days are fun, educational and FREE for Chatham County residents! Enjoy hands-on art projects, gallery exploration activities, story time and much more designed specifically for the entire family! Create DIY masterpieces, play art detective, or explore the ArtZeum, an interactive arts space, and our new TechSpace. With gallery activities throughout the museum, everyone can get in on the art and the action. Each Free Family Day will feature a different theme based on the museum’s changing exhibitions. Stop by a little while or stay for the entire afternoon-it’s all free. Come see what the fun is all about!

Juneteenth Lecture: Rev. George Liele’s Journey from Savannah Baptist to Rastafari
Jepson Center

This lecture recounts the fascinating story of Reverend George Liele, an African American preacher who was born enslaved, became a pastor in Savannah, and emigrated to Jamaica, where his teachings formed the basis of Rastafari faith. Jamaica-based lawyer and scholar Michael A. Lorne will tell this story that connects Savannah to Jamaica. This event is FREE and open to the public!

Juneteenth Free Family Day
Jepson Center

One of the longest-running community programs at the Jepson Center, Juneteenth Family Day is a celebration of freedom, historically commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Explore Gullah-Geechee connections through storytelling by Jamal Toure and enjoy hands-on weaving and sculpting activities, artist demonstrations, and a special concert at 3pm by the dynamic percussionist and vocalist, David Pleasant.

Open Road Free Family Day
Jepson Center
1-4pm

Celebrate the end of summer and the exhibition The Open Road, with free family activities about travel and photography. Contribute to a map of summer travels, make an end-of-summer postcard, and talk to prominent local photographers about their work and travels.
