Erik Desmazières (French, B. 1948) is one of the most renowned French printmakers of his generation. Since he first picked up an etching needle nearly 50 years ago, Desmazières has produced a body of work remarkable for its sheer technical brilliance and its unrelenting originality. Desmazières’ etchings invite comparison with old masters, but his work is undeniably his own. Each painstakingly detailed composition provides a glimpse into the artist’s fantastically inventive mind. Reflecting the artist’s abiding interest in architecture, many of these works depict either the actual interiors, edifices, and cityscapes that compose the artist’s world, or the purely imagined constructions that occupy his extraordinary imagination.
