Speaker Dr. Althea Sumpter, Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Commission

Emmy nominated producer and editor, Althea Sumpter will discuss documenting and
preserving the Southern story in the Low Country and US. As a native of St. Helena Island,
South Carolina, she uses digital media to capture the stories of her own culture, the Gullah culture of the South Carolina and Georgia Lowcountry. Sumpter has taught digital media production and scriptwriting at Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia State University, Clark Atlanta University and The Art Institute of Atlanta. She is a member and past chair of the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Commission, created by Congress in 2006.
