Juneteenth is the oldest public celebration of the end of slavery in the United States.

Telfair kicks off its 12th annual Juneteenth observance with a Free Family Day filled with storytelling and demonstrations highlighting African American history and Gullah culture. Telfair’s celebration was founded by local historian and poet Vaughnette Goode-Walker, who remains the event’s creative force. Included are storytelling programs by longtime presenters Jamal Toure and Queen Quet, hands-on activities for students, demonstrations of traditional crafts, a 3pm musical performance, and more.

Investment is provided by the City of Savannah and the Georgia Power Foundation.
