Featured Artist Workshop with Patrick Saunders
September 16, 2022–September 18, 2022 Jepson Center- This event has passed.
The painted still life tells a story through the composition and the elements represented, requiring a balance of spontaneity and accuracy, a perfect subject to practice adding energy and excitement to all your paintings. Learn about choosing a subject, composition, values, color temperature, simplification, how to start, and when to stop. Each day will include a full demonstration followed by opportunities to create multiple paintings, with frequent one-on-one instruction. We will work from both photos and still life setups in the studio.
Class size is limited to 15 so each student can receive the maximum amount of interaction with the instructor. A suggested material list will be provided prior to the class.
Artist statement
“I believe that art is the act of creation. The result, whether it is a painting, sculpture, photograph, etc., is simply a record of the creation experience. My approach is to free myself from preconceived visual beliefs and interpret the world directly before me. In so doing, I rediscover the colors, textures, and values of everyday life that we otherwise take for granted. This is what drives me to paint and what I encourage in my students. My art is the product of diligence in practice. I do not believe in talent. I believe that all of us have the potential to create art, if we choose to dedicate ourselves to the pursuit.”
