Director’s Circle Virtual Exhibition Preview Youthful Adventures: Growing Up in Photography

Director’s Circle members, please mark your calendars and join Erin Dunn, Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art for an exclusive first look at Youthful Adventures: Growing Up in Photography in a Zoom format. Erin will highlight photographs from Telfair’s permanent collection and discuss how they create conversations unique to the subjects. These works range in date from the 1940s to the 21st century and consider childhood as a transitory stage of development that defies a universal experience of what it means to be a child. This exhibition will reveal the diversity of childhood as children seek to formulate their identities among competing social forces. The viewer will be privy to the gamut of emotions made evident by the children in these photographs, who unabashedly project anxiety and innocence, playfulness, and confusion. In addition to exploring the individuality of children, the exhibition also will question the artistic intent of the photographers behind the images.
