Director’s Circle Reception: Michelangelo’s Women
October 8 at 5pm–7:30pm Jepson Center
Director’s Circle members will enjoy cocktails and a first look at the first major exhibition in Savannah to feature Michelangelo’s work. After the reception, join the exhibition’s curator, Dr. Gary Radke, for a fascinating exploration of Michelangelo’s images of women. Dr. Radke will discuss key themes and works from the exhibition, which were assembled through his deep knowledge of the artist’s work and relationship with the Casa Buonarroti in Florence, which preserves the artist’s legacy.
*Note that the General Membership reception begins at 5:30pm in the Jepson Atrium. The lecture begins at 6:15pm in the Neises Auditorium.
Dr. Gary Radke is one of the world’s leading experts on Italian Medieval and Renaissance art and architecture, with a special interest in 15th-century Florentine sculpture. He has served as Dean’s Professor of the Humanities and Professor of Art History in the College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University, where he also directed the internationally noted Florence Graduate Program in Renaissance Art for 35 years. Since 2001, Radke has also served as a guest curator at Atlanta’s High Museum of Art, where he organized a series of high-profile shows—and their respective exhibition catalogs—featuring works by Leonardo, Michelangelo, Ghiberti, Verrocchio, and other Italian Renaissance masters. Radke is a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome.
