Furnished: Explorations of Decorative Arts

November 8, 2020 Reflections on Silver by Brandy S. Culp

Brandy S. Culp, the Richard Koopman Curator of Decorative Arts at the Wadsworth Atheneum, will explore the complex material history of silver, beginning with some of the prized objects in the Telfair collection, which she will place within a larger transatlantic world of exchange and production.

Prior to joining the Atheneum, Brandy served as the curator of Historic Charleston Foundation, the Andrew W. Mellon Fellow in the Department of American Art at the Art Institute of Chicago, and held positions at the Bard Graduate Center and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.  In 2018, she curated the exhibition Interwoven: The Art of Silver and Indigo, and is currently working on the reinstallation of the Wadsworth’s silver collection and an exhibition about sugar, which will be on view in 2023.
