
Anthropology and the Legacy of Slavery: Archaeology, Cultural, and Medical Anthropology

Georgia Southern’s Anthropology Program is honored to contribute to the Telfair Museum’s Legacy of Slavery event. As part of their annual “Anthropology Week Celebration,” faculty will share information and insight relating to the legacy of slavery in the Southeast and Caribbean. To celebrate World Anthropology Day, February 17, 2022, this “Evening of Anthropology” will feature talks on the relationship between enslaved people and the construction of the Confederate POW site at Camp Lawton, the potential for community archaeology to connect the past to the present, the development of African American foodways, and longstanding maternal health disparities that are a legacy of institutionalized inequality.
