Building Educational Excitement from Fall to Winter –Kip Bradley

family art lab 050I had so much fun this past fall with an exciting round of workshops and super Artist Instructors. I wanted to show off some images from this fall and give a glimpse into the upcoming winter plans.
family art lab 007family art lab 028This fall’s programing began with a great First Saturday Family art lab taught by Brian Woods, where parents and children created large scale abstract painting on roofing felt after viewing The Betsy Cain workshop.   Here is an image of my daughter creating her abstract glitter explosion. I was so happy with the outcome the 4’x4′ painting is already matted, framed, and hanging on our home wall.
education classses events sept2011 013Carl Fougerousse has taught for us with us for some time, and this fall he hosted two great workshops that have really exemplified his strong, classic skills as a painter.   The students have clearly benefited from his knowledge. The class was conducted on Broughton Street a couple hours before sunset and was finished at around 8pm, a few hours after sunset. Carl Fougerousse also taught a second 5 week class exploring figure painting and the challenge of utilizing the same figure for multiple positions in the same painting.
DSC_0058DSC_0278Charlie Ribbens taught a fabulous Photography class exploring the Jan Reich  photography works that are on view at the Academy until Feb 5th.   This class included both teens and adults. Meeting once a week for 5 weeks, the participants roamed the museum and downtown Savannah, working with both traditional Black and white film as well as digital photography. Here are a couple awesome images from one of the participants.

ydrpostydrwpost2As usual, Marissa Lilje‘s youth drawing portfolio class had her middle school kids drawing better than most college freshman.   She is working with 12 students that are preparing their portfolios to apply to Garrison and Savannah Arts Academy.
betsypost2Betsy Cain hosted a shaped  canvas workshop, leading participants through her  process of ideation and execution of painted works on shaped surfaces. The results are featured in their own exhibition in the Jepson Community Gallery, on view through November 21.
betsypost 3Our  fall classes and events were so much fun that I am now ecstatically developing classes and workshop for this winter, January-March 2012. Here’s a preview of the ideas on the table: we are looking at a dance class in the galleries related to the amazing work of light sculptor Leo Villareal, whose exhibition opens February 3rd … AN LED workshop where you will have a chance to build your own version of a Villareal     … a video game workshop … and scraper bike day in conjunction with Pulse Technology Festival.   These plus a full range of tradition art and design classes taught by master artists and teachers will make up our winter classes.   Be sure to check our website on November 20th.   That’s when I will post the schedule and registration will officially open.
