These three watercolors were created to illustrate Gibran’s book The Garden of the Prophet. The theme of the feminine divine is particularly evident in the work on the right, in which Gibran interprets Mother Earth as a nude figure reaching down toward the small human figures below her. Her peaceful expression and tilted head suggest a benevolent and affectionate relationship with the people who surround her and gesture toward her, seemingly for support or guidance.
