Purpose and Goals:

Telfair Museums offers a unique opportunity to high school students to foster the development of future museum professionals. This summer internship is intended specifically for any outstanding student who is a member of a group currently under-represented in these professions including individuals of African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx or Hispanic and Native American descent.

Applicants are sought for the Tenenbaum Internship for the summer of 2024. The one student chosen will gain exposure to the workings of Telfair Museums across various departments, but mostly with the education department by assisting with implementation of in-house and outreach programming, marketing, evaluation, assistance with Telfair’s studio, tours, education gallery, and providing general departmental support.

Compensation:

This is a paid internship at a rate of $20/hr. Telfair Museums does not provide parking or housing assistance for interns, however public transportation reimbursement may be made available.

Time Requirement:

Applicants are required to commit to a minimum of ten (10) hours per week for the duration of the summer. Office hours in the education department are 9 am to 5 pm with programs on select Saturdays 1-4pm, although weekend hours are available.

Eligibility:

Candidates applying for internship must:

  • Be a high school student in Chatham County for the 2023-2024 academic year
  • Be a member of a minority group including, but not limited to: individuals of African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx or Hispanic and Native American descent
  • Financial need will be considered.

Duties and Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Assist education staff with the development and implementation of programming.
  • Conduct research pertinent to the collection and upcoming exhibitions.
  • Support staff in grassroots promotion of upcoming programs.
  • Provide general administrative support.
  • Assist with tour-giving, studio classes, summer camps, outreach, and workshops through preparation of materials and teaching.
  • Assist with marketing by developing creative museum content for social media platforms.

  • Attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude
  • Ability to work with diverse learners of all ages
  • High level of professionalism

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity
  • Sitting, standing, bending, stooping, walking, reaching
  •  Ability to life and carry a minimum weight of 20 pounds
  •  Climbing stairs
