The Telfair Museum of Art is seeking an intern to assist with the redevelopment of the digital archive and digitization of the collection. The intern will primarily work independently to remap the archive through the organization and population of files based on a predetermined plan. The process will include but is not limited to the following: transfer of files between servers, digitization of fragile historic documents, eliminating redundancies, uploading files to the collections management system TMS (The Museum System), and composing guides for the various sectors of the archive.
The Telfair Museum of Art is excited to open this opportunity to attentive individuals seeking museum or archive experience. The work you do on the digital archive will go a long way in assisting museum staff and in turn, the public, in accessing Telfair Museums’ illustrious institutional history.
Applicants are required to commit to at least sixteen (16) hours per week for thirteen (13) weeks with an option to extend the internship through the summer for an additional thirteen (13) weeks. Office hours in the curatorial department are 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
Candidates applying for internship must:
- Be a graduate student or rising college junior or senior currently attending a university.
- Coursework in library science, archives or museum studies are preferred; applicants with backgrounds in art history or history are welcome to apply.
- Ability to work independently and clearly communicate verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of Content Management Systems, TMS (The Museum System) is preferred but not necessary.
- Experience in object handling is preferred but not necessary.
Ability to perform various functions such as standing, sitting for long periods, walking across uneven surfaces, climbing stairs, lifting, seeing in varying light conditions, and participating in some physical activities.
This is a paid internship providing a stipend of $2,496.00 for thirteen (13) weeks. Students are responsible for arranging with their schools to receive credit. Telfair Museums does not provide travel, relocation, parking or housing assistance for interns.
