The Artful Table: Celebrations, a two-day event with guest lecturer Barry Dixon, begins on Thursday, March 8, with a Preview Party at Telfair Museums’ Jepson Center. Featuring fine fare from Savannah’s top restaurants and caterers, guests will enjoy the sounds of Gypsy Jazz from Ricardo Ochoa and Sasha Strunjas. The event’s signature tablescapes, each designed around a celebration, and a Silent Auction of artist-decorated Tiny Tables and Chairs lend excitement to this first opportunity to meet guest lecturer Barry Dixon.
The Artful Table continues on Friday, March 9, with a presentation by Dixon, one of the nation’s most sought-out designers. Based in Warrenton, Virginia, Dixon’s work has been featured in Veranda, Southern Accents, and House Beautiful, as well as in his two books, the most recent entitled Inspirations. “Inspiration is everywhere,” says Dixon. “It lives in the memory of our past, the vibrancy of our present and the possibility of our future.” He is also a frequent design contributor on network television including Good Morning America, HGTV, Style Network and Fox Television.
A 1982 graduate of The University of Mississippi, Barry spent much of his childhood abroad. Living in India, Pakistan, Korea, New Caledonia and South Africa, where he graduated from high school, has given Barry a global perspective which is reflected in his design work throughout his career. A furniture line was launched in 2005, then a rug collection with Megerian in January, 2009 and a fabric collection with Vervain debuted at Maison Objets in Paris in January 2010. His collaboration with Fortuny, the Italian fabric house, continued last year with new products and showrooms in Venice and New York City. Barry was recently selected by Veranda magazine as their “2010 Master of Design.”
Following the lecture at Savannah Theater, guests will move to the Jepson Center and Telfair Academy for a seated luncheon catered by CafeZeum, featuring tables decorated with uniquely crafted celebration cakes.
