Sixth Annual Juneteenth Celebration

June 15, 2013 | 1-4 pm | Jepson Center

This historic event celebrates Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, and commemorates the 1865 announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas, the last state to do so. The celebration will include storytelling, hands on activities for families, a performance by the African Spirit (Jamal Toure) and a rare demonstration of Geechee Gullah culture by the Georgia Geechee Gullah Ring Shouters of Darien. FREE and open to the public thanks to project funding from the City of Savannah Department of Cultural Affairs
