The 21st Annual Telfair Art Fair will be held November 14th and 15th in the heart of historic downtown Savannah, Georgia. There will be an Opening Night Preview on Friday, November 13th. This popular southern open air art fair attracts thousands of high-end art collectors, tourists, area residents and families and is open to artists displaying and selling works in various artistic disciplines including painting, printmaking, drawing/pastel, digital media, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics/pottery, photography, furniture, glass, textiles/fiber, and mixed media. Approximately 90 artists will be selected for the 21st Annual Telfair Art Fair and $11,000 in prizes will be awarded.

The Telfair Art Fair promotes the mission of developing awareness, understanding, and appreciation of the arts and serving as a dynamic cultural center connecting people of all ages and backgrounds.

Competition is open to artists 18 years of age and older. Artists must provide and prepare their own booths, equipment, and display materials. Artists must be present for the duration of the Art Fair. Volunteers will be available for break relief. Additional artists in a booth will not be allowed, unless the two applied as collaborators in the given category. Artists cannot sublease assigned booths or employ sales agents or representatives in lieu of attending the fair. Images submitted with application must reflect original artworks and those works that the artist will exhibit and sell at the Telfair Art Fair. Reproductions of artists’ works may be shown alongside the originals but must be marked clearly as such. If works other than those of exhibiting artists or manufactured or kit objects are displayed, forfeiture of booth space and all fees will result. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

BOOTHS AND FEES

All applicants must submit a $35 non-refundable application fee accompanying entry materials by June 1, 2015. For this year’s open air event, 10 x 10 booth spaces (or 10 x 20 double booth space) will be available to participating artists. Artists are responsible for providing their own tenting and booth set up materials, props for display, and cover in case of inclement weather. Telfair Museums will not be responsible for any damages or thefts. Tents, tables and pegboards will not be available for rental from local distributors this year.

Upon acceptance, artists will receive correspondence with booth options which will be secured on a first come, first serve basis. Booth fees are flat fees ranging from $500 to $600 for 10 x 10 spaces, double booth spaces are subject availability and will be offered at a the cost of each space plus 20%; Telfair Museums will not be collecting commission on sold works. Telfair Museums does not issue refunds for booth fees.

Jury exempt artists, including the 2014 winners, are required to complete an application in ZAPP.

JURY PROCEDURE

Artists will be selected to participate in the 21st Annual Telfair Art Fair through a blind jury process, only original artwork will be considered. Commercial kits, molds, patterns, prefabricated forms, mass-produced art, and imported goods are not eligible. Accepted exhibitors must only show and sell work of the same type and style as demonstrated in the images submitted with the entry application. Not-for-sale art works will not be considered for jurying purposes. Photography entries need to specify whether or not images are editioned works. Artists should take care in submitting only high quality digital images for viewing. Artists will be notified of their status by August 1, 2015.

JUDGING

The judge for the 21st Annual Telfair Art Fair is Edward Hayes. Edward Hayes is Curator of Exhibitions for the Museum of Latin American Art, the only U.S. museum dedicated exclusively to modern and contemporary Latin American art. He joined the Museum in 2013 as Assistant Curator, after three years at the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio as Curatorial Assistant. For MOLAA, he is curator of Neomexicanism; Marcela Armas: Resistance and Vortex; and Clarissa Tossin: Streamlined, and was assistant curator for MOLAA exhibitions including Frida Kahlo, Her Photos; Magical Realism & Modern Oaxaca; and Marcos Ramírez ERRE: A Game of Deception, among others. He holds a BFA from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago and an MA in Art History from The University of Texas at San Antonio.

AWARD PRESENTATION

Artists who are selected and accept invitation to participate into the 21st Annual Telfair Art Fair are eligible for judging and awards. $11,000 in prizes will be awarded. The recipient of the Carolyn Luck Gold Award will receive a $5,000 prize and guaranteed entry for the 2016 Telfair Art Fair. Guaranteed entry in the 2016 Telfair Art Fair will also be granted to the Silver and Bronze Award winners, as well as a $2,000 and $1,000 prize, respectively. A $1000 Low Country Award will be granted to a regional artist and four $500 Honorable Mention Awards will also be granted. Only original works are eligible for judging and awards.

SECURITY

Telfair Museums and the City of Savannah will provide nominal security. Booths may be left up over-night. Each artist must assume the full responsibility for the care, safety, and security of his or her works, property, and person. Telfair Museums will not be responsible for loss or damage to art or injury to anyone participating in the fair. Exhibitors are responsible for their own personal and property liability. Please leave pets at home.

ARTY PARTY

The popular opening preview party offers artists the opportunity to get a jump-start on exhibiting and selling their works to more than 400 Arty Party Patrons, museum members, and other special guests. Arty Party gives artists direct exposure to our finest constituents. All participating artists will be invited to attend the Arty Party as “working guests” of Telfair Museums and will be served refreshments. If artists would like to have additional guests in their booth during the preview event, tickets will be available for purchase through ZAPP.
