| FREE

juneteenth_workshopAges 10-18

Build an African thumb piano as part of The Telfair Museum’s Juneteenth celebration on June 7. This free workshop is open to ages 10-18. Whether you call it an mbira, sanza, ikembe , kalimba or thumb piano, the mbira is an important melodic rhythm  instrument with an exclusively African heritage. Savannah-born  artist and musician TJ Reddy and Tony Pizzo of the Ships of the Sea Museum have developed a simple-to-construct version of the mbira and will supply the kits, tools and resources for the workshop. TJ will also provide some background and playing instruction.

Free admission. Pre-registration required, call 912-790-8827.

Workshop presented in collaboration with the Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum.
