Leadership: Oliphant Cartoons and Sculpture
from the Bush
Years
Telfair's Jepson Center for the Arts

Australian-born artist Patrick Oliphant is one of the world’s
most prominent political cartoonists. He began his career as a
copyboy for his hometown newspaper, and was quickly promoted to
the position of cartoonist. After coming to the United States
in 1964, Oliphant worked as a political cartoonist for the Denver
Post, Los Angeles Times, and Washington Star before becoming an
independent cartoonist. His work is regularly commissioned by
such publications as the New York Times, Washington Post, and
The New Yorker. Oliphant has been awarded numerous international
honors, including the Pulitzer Prize in 1967. This exhibition,
organized by the Susan Conway Gallery in Washington, DC, presents
original political cartoons by Patrick Oliphant from the beginning
of the 21st century to the present, as well as unique examples
of the artist’s work in sculpture and oversized caricature
drawings.
