Fast Forward: Three Decades of Contemporary Art
from the North
Carolina Museum of Art
Telfair's Jepson Center for the Arts

The Telfair is pleased to present a selection of highlights from
the contemporary collection of the North Carolina Museum of Art,
an institution with one of the most respected collections of contemporary
art in the region. The 30 works represented include a massive,
vigorous oil painting by German master Gerhard Richter; an ominous
mixed-media piece by Argentinean artist Guillermo Kuitca that
evokes the memory of the thousands of people who vanished during
Argentina’s reign of military terror during the 1970s; an
iconic abstraction by Robert Motherwell; and a whimsical assemblage
by American artist Devorah Sperber that represents an enlarged
detail of the Mona Lisa by means of over 5,000 individual spools
of colored thread. Contemporary photography is also well represented
in the show, which includes photographs taken from North Carolina
to New Orleans to Seattle, as well as Germany and Cuba. This exhibition
is organized by the North Carolina Museum of Art. Sponsored, in
part, by AT&T Real Yellow Pages.
