2008 Artful Afternoons Camp Dates
July 7-11 (ages 6-8)

In this summer afternoon program at the Telfair, students will gain an appreciation for fine art through creative visual and hands-on experiences. Participants will tour the exhibitions on view at the Jepson Center, studying the work of noted artists such as William Christenberry and Luther Vann. Every afternoon, after viewing artwork from the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions, campers will head to the education studios to discover a new artistic technique based on their gallery visits. Each camp culminates with an exciting student art exhibition — featuring work produced during the weeklong program — and a reception in the nationally recognized Jepson Center for the Arts!

This camp will take place in the Education Studios on the 2nd floor of the Jepson Center for the Arts. You may drop your child off with camp staff in front of the Jepson Center at 1pm. To ensure your child’s safety, camp staff will require adults to sign all campers in and out. Please be prompt in picking up campers at 4:30pm at the same location.

Telfair Museum’s Master Artist Photography Camp

ages 10-12  June 16-20th 10am-4pm
ages 13-16  June 23-27th 10am-4pm

During the week-long Telfair Museum’s Master Artist Photography Camp, students will learn the functions of 35mm manual cameras, as well as the principle techniques of shooting in black & white and color photography. This camp proudly guides students though the foundational skills of using film, though instructors will touch upon the advancements of digital media to supplement the experience. This camp features: a field trip to a downtown gallery; visits from established photographers; 
on-location shoots in the historic district; access to the Telfair Museum’s photography collection; and more! The program will culminate with a reception and exhibition of the participants’ work in the
Jepson Center’s Morrison Community Gallery!

$225 per student ($190 members)
*Camp Fees includes museum membership
Optional lunch fees: $5.00 per lunch (provided by our café)
All camera materials, processing fees and film are included in this fee.

Lead Instructor: Tim Lisko
Assistant instructor: Ann Curry
We welcome a new instructor to the Telfair team: Tim Lisko is a Freelance Photographer and Professor of Advertising Design at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Tim’s experience ranges from the Joyce Tennyson Studios to The Maine Photographic workshops, studying such subject matter as the philosophy and teaching styles of great contemporary photographers. Tim's current pursuits include an experimental study of visual balance in digital media. He has worked with the students of the Moses Jackson Center, teaching the foundational skills of photography and how to develop an eye for photographic compositions. This is Ann Curry's fourth year assisting with the Master Artist  Photography Camp. Ann loves taking photographs and teaching photography to local children.
